About Me

Why Boots?

My website is colleeninboots.com. My twitter and instagram handles are @colleeninboots. So why boots? I’ve always loved making things. Since I was little my favorite show was Myth Busters just because I got to see all the cool things they made. When I was about 14, I asked my mom for work boots so I could “get serious” about making things. They made me feel legit and happy. Then I wore them to a day of theater tech design and the other kids made fun of my boots. They were too manly. I put them in the back of my closet and didn’t touch them. I largely stopped making things too.

Until, at some point in college, I decided I didn’t care what anyone thought of me. If the boots made me happy, I would keep wearing them, just like I would keep making things. I’ve worn them ever since when I’m woodworking or building electronics or laser cutting. The photo shows me now wearing those very same boots, while making a custom wooden table.

What Do I Do for Fun?

Outside of making things, I enjoy scuba diving with my husband, dancing, and spending time with my Australian Shepherd, Lacey. My aussie and I have been working on urban herding. It’s a kind of game where the dog “herds” a ball around the yard to your command. So far I’ve gotten her to sort of bite at the ball.

For scuba diving, I’ve been to the Great Barrier Reef (pictured), Monterey Bay, Catalina, and Cozumel. My honeymoon was supposed to be to Indonesia for diving, but it got interrupted by COVID. We hope to go some day soon!
